Who could abandon this noble dog and leave him to die at the animal shelter? But he has been a wonderful friend at his forever home for over ten years, so it all worked out.

The animal shelter comedian, kicked out of a couple foster homes for jumping the fence and chasing livestock. For ten years he's been aggravating and entertaining the rest of the family. What a good dog.

The little general was found tied to a lamp pole in downtown Nampa late one night. No one ever claimed him, so I guess he was supposed to bring his particular brand of joy to his family of more than eight years.

As a tiny kitten, Penny found her way into the bottom of a dumpster on a cold rainy night. She saved herself by crying--loudly--and then climbing a plank lowered to her. Now her tiny mews announce her coming and going. She's a bit "touched" and is a delightful distraction for all the old animals and people in the house.

We adopted Sammy at the end of June 2002.Don't know his exact birthday. He was a wonderful big goof ball, who loved the snow and was scared of the toaster. Tragically he was hit, when he got out of the yard and panicked. Thank you to your wonder staff for comforting us. We miss him.

It was a privilege to adopt Riley from the shelter and give him the life he deserved for ten years. A proud member of the "Border Patrol," he was a fun-loving, gentle dog who gave much joy. For several years he delighted school children with his Frisbee obsession while helping educate them on good pet care. It has been five months since I had to say goodbye with the gentle help of Dr. Bauscher, and I still miss him terribly. I love you, Ry Ry.

Pet Insurance??

What is it and what does it mean for you pet?  Many people may have heard about pet insurance but may have thought it was too "gimmicky", expensive or just not for their pet.  The truth is, it is not a gimmick, it may not be too expensive for your budget, and even if you got "Fluffy" for free, it may be right for your pet!

First of all, what is Pet Insurance? Pet Insurance is not true medical insurance. It is a fee-for-service indemnity insurance similar to auto or homeowner policies. They provide compensation for expenditures covered in the policy. Persons with these policies have contracts with the insurance providers and submit claims for reimbursement of the costs they incur. The insurers generally pay only a portion of the costs they incur with the veterinary hospital instead of the full amount. Since Pet Insurance is not true medical insurance the insurance company is not concerned with treatment outcomes, length of hospital stays, and other issues important to human medical insurance or managed care.

Pet Insurance reimburses the policy holder--not the veterinary hospital--so the pet owner/policy holder will have to cover the initial expenses from the hospital, file a claim with the insurance company, and collect from the insurance company. It may be wise to have a line of credit handy just in case of emergencies. We recommend medical line of credit called Care Credit which offers easy payment options, often with 0% interest, for just such cases.

With Pet Insurance, you as a pet owner can avoid the risk of costly veterinary care, planned or unplanned, that is more than the household budget can bear. Emergency hospital and specialty care may be covered as well. You also get the peace of mind knowing your pet can get the best care possible when they need it the most.

Pet Insurance can be affordable because you are in charge of your policy. You can decide how much coverage you would like, and what deductibles work for your budget.  Choices include "Accident-Only" plans, "Full-Coverage" that includes twice-yearly vet visits, vaccinations, spays/neuters, dentistry's, lab work and even cancer treatments. Some exclusions will always apply depending on which company you choose. Companies we have worked with and recommend are Pets Best Insurance, Veterinary Pet Insurance, and Purina Pet Health.

Veterinarians have more and better therapeutic options for your pet than ever before. Twenty-five years ago there were fewer diagnostic tools and surgical techniques. Such things as MRI's, chemotherapy and cutting edge surgeries that are commonly used in todays' medicine were rare or non-existent.

As we strive to provide the best veterinary medicine possible for your pets, increased costs are inevitable.   We hope Pet Insurance will be able to help you in your ability to come along with us down the road to long, happy, healthy lives for your pets!
